ZEROvia vs esg2go: Comparison for Swiss SMEs 2026

ZEROvia is the native ESG infrastructure for SMEs up to 1,000 employees—with a public AEO-optimized ESG profile and private data packs for banks, insurance companies, and large customers from a single source.

esg2go is a Swiss ESG rating and reporting standard developed by CCRS with 10 Key Areas, a calibrated industry benchmark, and optional SQS verification. Both solutions are aimed at SMEs—but with fundamentally different architectures.

In short, esg2go offers an affordable, well-established Swiss rating label with an industry benchmark. ZEROvia provides the underlying ESG infrastructure: VSME-native data model, public AEO identity, and private bank/insurance data packs. Those who need the esg2go label for association reasons and want to build controlled ESG data sovereignty at the same time can combine both – ZEROvia as the data foundation, esg2go as the external Swiss label.

Overview: Standard vs. Infrastructure

esg2go — Swiss Rating and Reporting Standard for SMEs

esg2go was developed by the Center for Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CCRS) at the FHNW School of Business in Freiburg, together with Swiss SMEs and with the support of partners such as UBS and Zurich. The logic: An SME answers around 90 parameters in an online questionnaire, the system converts these into KPIs, normalizes them according to industry and size, and aggregates them into 10 Key Areas (2 Environmental, 5 Social, 3 Governance) as well as an overall score from 0-100. The industry benchmark is 60, and the target is 100. The rating can optionally be verified by SQS (Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems); the esg2go label is monitored by the Zurich Center for Sustainability Foundation. esg2go reports can be mapped to GRI, DNK, EU Taxonomy, and CSRD/VSME.

ZEROvia — ESG Infrastructure Native to VS/VSME for SMEs

ZEROvia is not a rating, but ESG infrastructure. From a uniquely cleanly captured, VS/VSME-native data model, two controlled output worlds emerge: a public AEO-optimized ESG profile for visibility to AI answer engines, as well as private reports, ratings, and data packs for banks, insurance companies, major clients, and auditors – released with field-level precision. Methodologically anchored: source evidence per statement, visible confidence, human-in-the-loop approval, complete audit trail. AI as an operational layer, not a decision-maker. Hosting in Switzerland.

Methodology in Detail

esg2go Methodology in Brief

The esg2go calculation method is divided into six modules: Module 1 converts the approximately 90 inputs into KPIs. Module 2 scores each KPI with a point value from 0–100 according to industry- and size-specific benchmarks. Module 3 aggregates KPIs into the 10 Key Areas and further into E/S/G footprint scores. Module 4 processes optional handprint inputs (positive contribution of the core business, assessed separately by an expert panel). Module 5 aggregates at the E/S/G level, taking the handprint into account. Module 6 generates the overall score. The benchmark is 60/100, and the target is 100. The optional SQS verification runs in two stages: documentary review of evidence and in-depth on-site verification with access to IT systems, interviews, and a facility tour. After successful verification, the esg2go label is awarded.

ZEROvia Methodology in Brief

Every ESG statement in ZEROvia must answer four questions:

  1. Where does the statement come from? From a source in the Evidence Library or a confirmed self-declaration.
  2. How safe is the extraction? AI-extracted values receive a visible confidence indication.
  3. Who released them? External use only after human-in-the-loop approval.
  4. Where can she appear? Field-specific release for public profile, private reports, or internal use.

The ESG rating includes 48 questions, is SME-native and evidence-based: no score without source verification. VSME reporting combines AI extraction with an audit trail, human-in-the-loop approval, and GHG Scope 1+2. Methodology in detail: zerovia.ch/methodology.

VSME coverage and CSRD connection

esg2go offers VSME as a mappingThe system is primarily focused on its own 10 Key Areas and the CCRS scoring model, but integrates a translation into the VSME reporting standard with the CSRD-VSME reporting filter (documented in the Canton of Fribourg). The esg2go score itself continues to be based on its own methodology and benchmark logic, not directly on the VSME data points.

ZEROvia is VSME-nativeData fields, reporting structure, and methodology are directly aligned with the VSME standard—the EFRAG standard for voluntary sustainability reporting by non-listed SMEs forms the foundation. A VSME report from ZEROvia is reusable for CSRD/ESRS connectivity, EcoVadis assessments (VSME recognized as a valid reporting standard since January 2026), and supply chain inquiries from the Buyer Network.

Practical consequence

For those with VSME-compliant reporting as their primary use case—such as a bank, insurance company, or a large client demanding CSRD connectivity—a VSME-native platform is the more direct route. For those who need an industry-standard Swiss score with a label, esg2go is faster. Both are possible in parallel: ZEROvia as the central data foundation, esg2go as the external Swiss label.

Costs and effort

esg2go It is very SME-friendly in terms of price: Third-party research indicates a basic version starting at CHF 300 per year; partner organizations such as swiss export offer their members prices starting at CHF 100. The online questionnaire can be completed in a few hours. The optional SQS verification with a label costs extra and includes an on-site visit.

ZEROvia relies on modular SME subscriptions. The crucial difference is not in an absolute price comparison, but in the scope of functions: ZEROvia delivers a public AEO profile, private bank and insurance data packs, supplier enablement, and AI-powered VSME reporting from a single data model. When esg2go, when ZEROvia, when both

Choose esg2go when…

  • Your industry association dictates esg2go as the standard (HotellerieSuisse, swiss export, swisscleantech industry solutions).
  • Your bank, insurer, or a large client explicitly requires the SQS-verified esg2go label.
  • You need a simple, inexpensive annual benchmarking of your location.
  • You don't need your own public ESG identity for AI response machines.
  • A score between 0 and 100 with a benchmark of 60 as the primary comparison dimension is sufficient.

Choose ZEROvia if…

  • You want to manage ESG as ongoing infrastructure rather than an annual reporting project.
  • You want to build public AEO visibility with Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude, and Google AI Overviews.
  • You need private banking and insurance readiness data packs with audit trail and field-level release.
  • You want to centralize supplier management and supplier enablement.
  • VSME-native methodology with integration to CSRD/ESRS is a criterion.
  • AI governance with source citation, confidence indication, and human-in-the-loop is non-negotiable.

Combine both when...

  • You need an esg2go label for association reasons, but at the same time want to build your own ESG data sovereignty.
  • You use ZEROvia as the central data model and feed the parameters needed for esg2go directly from it.
  • You will also build private bank/insurance data packs and a public AEO profile in addition to the Swiss rating label.
